As one of the most renowned achievements of the EUniWell Alliance, the Seed Funding Programme brings together researchers, students, educators and administrators from our universities in innovative projects addressing EUniWell’s core commitments to advance well-being in health, education, people and institutions, the environment, gender equality and/or reduced inequalities.

10 projects have been selected for funding under the fourth call of the Seed Funding Programme!

As in the previous call, particular emphasis was placed on student participation. This objective was reached with 9 out of 10 projects involving students and the last one being student-led. Students also contributed significantly to the evaluation process as all the projects were reviewed jointly by students and academics.

From the 30 applications submitted, the Seed Funding Selection Committee decided to select the following projects:

  • Resilience for students will create a digital training to improve the well-being of students by developing self-sustaining strategies for resilience based on research in positive psychology.
  • Maximising academics and social outcomes in engineering education will contribute to rebalance engineering education to improve its service to society. Engineering faculties will bring their expertise to maximise the social and academic outcomes of teaching innovation and creativity, communication and networking, sustainability and responsibility.
  • MASTERY will identify and promote measures to improve the well-being of researchers and students working on sensitive issues by creating tools and resources that will be used by teachers to introduce and discuss sensitive topics in a safe and inclusive manner when teaching.
  • Within the SIMU-VACTION on AI and Health Disparities project, students will have the opportunity to participate, together with  North American students, in a simulation of an international meeting of the Global Partnership on AI, with the aim to ensure that AI is designed to address health inequities.
  • Prosocial learning in student well-being and education will engage a research-based workshop on (pro)social learning in which ways to embed everyday prosocial acts at universities will be explored.
  • The ShareToWell project will provide a reliable and valid tool to assess well-being across the EUniWell universities with a multidimensional approach to well-being, including physical, psychological, spiritual, relational and general well-being.
  • EMPOWER will build a network of healthcare professions and medical students before producing a tool that will help to promote resilience and well-being of medical students.
  • EUniWell Moot Court aims to develop a Moot Court competition for students on SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) related topics with a view to fostering collaboration among students and academics.

Finally, the Selection Committee decided to support the continuation of two successful projects previously funded under the second EUniWell Seed Funding Call:

  • MaterialWell2 will further contribute to foster materials science research and innovation as a tool to overcome many current roadblocks to societal development goals, such as new medical innovations to improve quality of life, improvements in our urban environment and clean renewable energies.
  •  MADEINEUROPE2 will consolidate and expand the collaboration across EUniWell on issues of migration, diversity and social inclusion. A summer school for Masters and PhD students will be organised and an accreditation for the course developed within the project will be sought.

These 10 projects, which concretely demonstrate the added value of the EUniWell alliance and its activities, and will be implemented between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023.

A kick-off meeting bringing together the project coordinators and members as well as EUniWell leaders will take place on Wednesday September 21, 2022.
